Allison Holker Reveals Why She Stopped Dancing After Stephen “tWitch” Boss’ Death

A year after Stephen “tWitch” Boss’ death, Allison Holker is looking back at her loss and its grim consequence on her love for dancing. The former Dancing With The Stars pro revealed that she felt scared to dance for a while as it only reminded her late husband.

Allison Holker Took a Pause in Dancing Due to Her Husband’s Death

During her recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Holker talked how she’s been navigating her life chapter after her husband’s death. Apparently, she didn’t feel like dancing for “almost five months” after Boss died.

“[Dance was] so close to every memory I really share with Stephen,” she said. “There [were] parts of me that didn’t know if I was ready. It almost felt like maybe if I dance for the first time it’s my final release of him. I don’t know if I was trying to hold onto him or if I was scared to share that with him. I’m not sure which one it was but it took me a very long time to do it.”

By the time she felt ready to dance again, Holker knew she needed assistance. Hence, she called her pal Brittany Perry-Russell to join her.

“I didn’t want to do it alone, I was too scared to do it alone,” she said. “She came over, and we danced, and I feel like I just got so much off of me, and I actually felt so connected to Stephen, and I felt so connected to myself and to her and my home.”

In August 2023, Holker shared a dance video with Russell, reflecting how it “truly felt so good to dance again.” She expressed her appreciation to her friend for making the experience “so fun” and “safe.”

During her conversation with ET, her decision to dance again was such a “great release” for herself. According to the former DWTS pro, “freedom” and “healing” were the words to describe the moment as it made her realize “who I am and who I still can be.”

She is “Not Shying Away” From Love Despite Loss

In an episode of Nick Viall’s The Viall Files podcast, the So You Think You Can Dance alum talked whether she’d want to love again. Admitting that she’s still working through her emotions, the dancer is, however, curious if she could s”love someone else again while I still like someone and love someone else.”

“It’s a very complex situation I found myself in,” she said. “It took me a long time to accept all of those things and those complexities of everything. But at the end of the day, I love life. So would I shy away from it?”

Despite being open though, Holker clarified that she’s now actively looking for romance. Nonetheless, she’s always believed that life and love have always been out there.

“I still find that the world is such a beautiful place and there’s so much to be experienced. So to what kind of capacity? What that looks like? I don’t know. But I’m definitely not shying away from it,” she explained. “It’s just, life to me is life, and I just think it’s here to be experienced.”

Boss died by suicide on December 13, 2022 at age 40. The next day, Holker confirmed his death.
