Ken Jeong Tells People to ‘Be Kind’ Amid Covid-19 Omicron Variant

The Masked Singer judge Ken Jeong dropped some doctor knowledge on Jimmy Kimmel during an interview this week. In case you didn’t know, Jeong is a licensed physician who stopped practicing medicine to focus on acting.

Jeong also talked to Kimmel about his shows The Masked Singer and I Can See Your Voice, including how his mom encouraged him to take both of the jobs when he was unsure.

Ken Jeong Talks About the Omicron Covid-19 Variant

Jeong said he’s been watching news about the Omicron variant “24/7.” He shared that “we just gotta play defense — mitigation, masks.” Then he added, “We just gotta play common sense. Be kind to each other and not be an a**hole.”

“What’s really scaring the scientific community is that on that spike protein in the Delta variant that attaches to your body and infects you, there are two mutations,” Jeong explained. “On that spike protein for the Omicron variant, there are twelve.”

He had a message for people who might think that scientists are overreacting about these new variants. “You’re welcome,” Jeong said, “because all we wanna do is be overprepared.”

Jeong’s Mom Encouraged Him to Judge on ‘The Masked Singer’

In addition to judging on The Masked Singer, Jeong is also the host of I Can See Your Voice. Both of these series are based on Korean shows. Jeong, who is of Korean descent, said his mom encouraged him to take jobs on the series.

The actor explained that his parents live in the United States, but they use a satellite dish to watch Korean programming. Jeong said he was unsure about joining both shows when he first got the offers, saying, “I’ve never done those kind of shows.”

“My mom, of all people, she would send me YouTube clips of both shows and say, ‘You gotta do it. It’ll be a game changer,'” Jeong explained. “She knew, and then it was, and here we are.”

You can see Jeong judge on The Masked Singer Wednesday nights on FOX, and catch the I Can See Your Voice holiday special on Tuesday, December 14.
