Nicki Minaj and Husband Accused of Harassing His Sexual Assault Victim

Former American Idol judge Nicki Minaj is in the middle of a disturbing legal battle. The acclaimed rapper and her husband Kenneth Petty are facing a lawsuit claiming they intimidated the woman who accused Petty of rape in 1995. Petty was convicted of first-degree attempted rape that year. Documents bring several claims against Minaj and her husband including emotional distress, harassment, and assault and battery. The filing was submitted Friday to the Eastern District of New York.

Documents obtained by TMZ claim that Minaj and Petty have both directly and indirectly harassed the victim. The couple has threatened her to keep quiet about the incident. She also says they have inflicted emotional stress on her as a result.

“As a result of the Pettys’ actions, Ms. Hough has incurred serious debt after having to move three times in a span of seven months,” her lawyer informed USA TODAY in a statement. “She also quit her job out of fear of being found and attacked. The Pettys acted in concert to destroy Ms. Hough’s life, now they will be held accountable for their actions.”

Nicki Minaj and Husband Sued for Intimidation and Harassment

According to court filings, the victim claims the intimidation began after the couple started dating in 2018. Minaj has continuously come to Petty’s defense since the onset of their relationship. She believes her husband was “wrongfully accused,” and took to social media to blast any haters. However, in March 2020, Petty was arrested after failing to register as a sex offender in California.

In addition, the victim claims that Minaj offered to arrange a flight to Los Angeles in exchange for rebuking her rape claims against Petty. Days upon declining the offer, Hough and her family received a number of threatening calls and visits

Hough is now asking for a trial by jury for her claims. She will seek damages as well as statutory damages and attorney’s fees.

According to the New York State Sex Offender registry, Petty was convicted of attempted first degree rape in April 1995, for an assault that occurred when he and the victim were 16-years-old. As a result, the defendant was sentenced to 18 to 54 months in state prison. He ultimately served just under four years and was released in January 1999.
