What is ‘AGT’ Golden Buzzer, Luke Islam up to These Days?

Luke Islam gained all of our attention after auditioning for season 14 of America’s Got Talent. His rendition of “She Used to Be Mine from Waitress, blew the judges away and earned Julianne Hough’s Golden Buzzer. The singer’s performance throughout the competition landed him in the Semifinals before his elimination.

Islam did end up on the AGT stage again when he appeared on season two of The Champions, and his career has skyrocketed ever since. Now, the young star showcases his vocals on The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers on Disney+. Islam took to Instagram earlier this month to announce the show’s second season.

Luke Islam on The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers

Since his time on AGT, Islam received a starring role on the Disney + series, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. the 10-episode series is produces in-house at Disney’s ABC Signature Studios. It is based on the 1992 film written by Steve Brill. Set in present-day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from “scrappy underdogs” to a powerful youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan Morrow is cut from the team, he and his mother set out to build a team all their own. Here, they challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of youth sports. In the series, Islam plays Koob, the Don’t Brother’s goalie with great reflexes. His character is portrayed as a hardcore gamer, before hockey comes calling.

In the show’s fourth episode, “Hockey Moms,” Islam’s singing talents are highlighted. In a hilarious scene, Koob sings “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables in a scheme to distract their mothers.

“I am so incredibly honored to have the opportunity to showcase my vocals!” Islam said in an interview. “I started off as a singer so it’s really cool for me. Can’t wait for everyone to see it!”

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is one of the many reboots and revivals in the works at Disney +. Production on the show’s second season will begin in early 2022.

Islam on America’s Got Talent

Islam began his singing career at the early age of three. His passion for music led his path to musical theater, where he started performing at local theaters. Islam has seen countless Broadway shows and received the opportunity to belt it out on stage at one of them. Being a Broadway performer has been a goal of his for as long as he can remember. On season 14, he used the America’s Got Talent stage to make his dreams a reality.

Islam’s version of “She Used to be Mine” from the Broadway musical Waitress was so special, that it earned Julianne Hough’s Golden Buzzer that season. Before singing, he was asked who his favorite judge was, and sure enough, he expressed his admiration for Hough. Islam shared that he has been following the judge’s dancing career for quite some time. When his performance was over, he was greeted with a standing ovation from the entire room, as well as an emotional response from Hough herself. The judge’s decision to give Islam the Golden Buzzer sent the rising star straight to the Quarterfinals.

At the live shows, he sang “You Will Be Found” from the musical Dear Evan Hansen. Islam once again earned a standing ovation and was voted through to the Semifinals. At this stage, Islam performed “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman. Though he did not receive enough votes this time around to advance to the finals, the singer was seen once again on The Champions. Here, he got to live out his on stage dreams once more after singing “Ashes” by Celine Dion on the AGT stage.

Now, in addition to being a singer, Islam is a newfound actor. Aside from his character Koob in The Mighty Ducks, Islam also played Carlos in 13: The Musical on Netflix. With 43,200 followers on Instagram, the singer has only just begun on his rise to stardom.
