America’s Got Talent judge Sofia Vergara was recently a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she chatted with the host about her experience of being a young, single mother to her son Manolo, who is now 32.
Sofia Vergara Reflects on Single Motherhood with Son Manolo
Vergara admitted that it was “super hard” being a single mother to her son Manolo, sharing that she was just 20 years old when she had him. The actress said it was like she was “raising myself at the same time,” adding that she “should have been going to therapy.”
“But I am so proud that he turned out amazing and super hard-working,” Vergara said of Manolo. “And that he wants to do things in life, and he’s excited about life. I think that’s what all mothers wish for.”
Vergara added that she doesn’t “have anything bad to say about my son,” joking, “So I did a great job.” Clarkson shared a few cute photos of Vergara and her son when he was young, prompting the actress to share a funny story.
“I was dropping him to school,” she recalled, “and he turned around and said to me, ‘Mom, don’t forget that tomorrow, it’s the parents-teacher thing’ … And then, he was gonna close the door, and he turned around and said, ‘Don’t forget to dress like a mom.'”

Vergara Stars in a New Netflix Series
Vergara is sitting out the current season of AGT: Fantasy League, but fans can watch her in a new Netflix show called Griselda. In the limited series, Vergara stars as the real-life Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco.
The new show is scheduled to become available to stream on Netflix starting January 25, in spite of a lawsuit by Blanco’s family. The lawsuit claims that the series used information provided by Blanco’s son Michael, without paying him for it.
